It was a glamorous evening of icons, legends, and laughter at The Black Music Honors, where attendees at the Andrew Jackson Hall celebrated African American artists who have made significant music contributions to African American culture and American music worldwide. Bandit Lites supplied the lighting package for the two-hour recorded special which featured Rickey Smiley and LeToya Luckett as co-hosts.

Honorees were Oleta Adams, Jody Watley, Donnie McClurkin, Slick Rick and GUY with The Jackson’s receiving the Lifetime Achievement in Music Award. Featured performers included Jonathan Butler, Leela James, Avery Sunshine, KID N PLAY, Karen Clark Sheard, Marvin Winans, Latrice Crawford, SWV and Dave Hollister.

Lighting designer Mark Carver explained how Central City Productions sought a “very classy yet contemporary look.”
